§ 03 — Questions

Everything you were
too scared to ask.

01What is WhenJumpScare?+

WhenJumpScare is a dedicated horror movie guide with precise jumpscare timestamps so you can enjoy the genre your way, fully prepared or completely scare free.

02What's the best alternative to Where's The Jump?+

Since Where's The Jump stopped receiving regular updates in 2023, many users have been left without a dependable resource. WhenJumpScare fills that gap with the largest continuously updated database of jumpscare timestamps, delivering precise entries vetted by our team.

03Why is there no jumpscare data for a movie?+

If a title (often a new release) has no entries, it usually means no one has contributed timestamps yet or there simply aren't any. WhenJumpScare relies on the community: open the movie and click "Suggest Timestamp" to help other viewers.

04How do I contribute new timestamps?+

Open a movie and click "Suggest Timestamp". Your submission appears as pending and is approved our team. Thanks to contributors like you, we've built the largest jumpscare timestamp community and the biggest database available on the internet. The most active contributors are featured in Top Contributors.

05What is an SRT file and how do I use it?+

An SRT (SubRip Subtitle) is a simple text file with time codes. WhenJumpScare provides a warning SRT that shows a short heads up a few seconds before each jumpscare. Download it on a movie page and load it in your video player (e.g., VLC), or put it next to the video with the same filename to auto load. Some streaming players let you import external subtitles.

06What is the jumpscare timeline on a movie page?+

The jumpscare timeline on each movie page displays all the scary moments in chronological order. Each timestamp is marked as major (strong scare) or minor (mild scare), so you can see exactly when jumpscares happen and decide whether to watch, skip, or prepare for each scene. You can also run the timeline alongside your movie to receive real-time alerts with sound notifications and visual warnings on the page.

07Are the "Scary" ratings based on real audience feedback?+

Yes. Through our collaboration with ScaryMeter, WhenJumpScare displays the "Scary" rating from real users who vote on ScaryMeter.com. Each rating reflects genuine audience perception, and thanks to this partnership, every movie page features this score via the ScaryMeter API.

08How does the Movie List page sort films?+

The Movie List page allows you to browse horror movies sorted by their jumpscare count: films with no jumpscares, or films with low, medium, and high numbers of jumpscares. Find the perfect film based on how much scare you're comfortable with.
